My name is Selaci Butoto, but you can call me Selaci!
I’m deeply passionate about various forms of art. At 17 years old,
I proudly speak Swahili, I’m in the process of learning French, and I have a good grasp of Kirundi. I am also proud to be one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
While my roots lie in the beautiful country of Burundi, Central Africa, my journey led me to New York of the United States. The decision to leave Africa was not easy, but my mother’s vision for a better life encouraged our family to pursue new opportunities. While spending a few transformative years in a refugee camp, there I focused on sharpening my art skills.
In 2015, around May, my family and I arrived in America. Alongside my two sisters and six brothers, we embarked on this journey together. Even before setting foot in America, my artistic spirit thrived, with sketches and drawings adorning any surface I could find, whether it was on the ground or scraps of paper.
My artistic journey has evolved, and I now primarily express myself through painting while continuing to explore various mediums like clay, watercolors, and colored pencils.
I’d like to extend my gratitude to you for taking the time to visit my website. I hope you’ve had the chance to explore some of my creations here. Your feedback is invaluable to me, so please share your thoughts on my work.
Speaking of art, what type of art resonates with you? Has art ever played a transformative role in your life? I look forward to connecting with you and sharing more of my artistic endeavors. Speaking of sharing… the video takes you back to eight grade… well you have to start somewhere!
Warm regards,
Selaci the ARTist
